The 13th IEEE International Symposium on Safety, Security, and Rescue Robotics will be hosted at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. SSRR 2015 seeks to continue its tradition of attracting cutting-edge papers in the theory and practice of robotics and automation for all types of safety, security, and rescue applications such as disaster response, mitigation and recovery; rapid and secure inspection of critical infrastructure; detection of chemical, biological and radiological risks, and operations in these dangerous sites.

SSRR is also an entry point for researchers and technologists who want to learn more about safety, security and rescue robotics, through tutorials and keynotes. This year, SSRR will held at Purdue University in West Lafayette about 65 miles northwest of Indiana's capital city, Indianapolis, and about 103 miles southeast of Chicago. Purdue is a major research university known for discoveries in science, technology, engineering, and more as well as being the alma mater of 23 astronauts who have traveled to space including the first man on the moon, Neil Armstrong. The surrounding area of West Lafayette boasts beautiful lakes, rivers, trails, and wetlands for enjoying nature and in nearby Indianapolis is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway which hosts the world famous Indy 500 each year.

Topics for papers and demonstrations, include:
Robot performance requirements and technical solutions for applications of SSRR (urban search and rescue, CBRNE hazard detection/mitigation, explosive ordinance disposal, physical security, surveillance, etc)
Locomotion for ground, aerial, aquatic, indoor, and collapsed structures
Perception for navigation, hazard detection, and victim identification
Mapping of complex environments (2-D, 3-D, GIS integration, etc)
Manipulation capabilities (hazards, payloads, obstacles, doors, etc)
Communications for reliable data transfer (tether management, radio, etc)
Intelligent behaviors to improve robot performance and survivability
Human-robot interfaces for improved remote situational awareness
Autonomous search and exploration
Multi-robot teams and mixed human-robot teams
Sensors and video analytics for surveillance and security
Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) detectors
Training methods and other personnel issues
Safety standards of robots and systems
Evaluation and performance metric of robotic systems
Emerging technologies (sensors, power sources, micro robots, etc)
Emergency management issues related to robotics
Mechanisms, Mechatronics, and Embedded Control
