International Workshop on Soft Material Based Robotics
Soft Robotics is an innovative research field dedicated to the science and engineering of soft materials based machines. The Soft Robotics Workshop breaks new ground to answer the urgent need for research on robotic technology that can safely interact with human and living systems and function in complex natural or human-built environments. Multidisciplinary in scope, Soft Robotics combines advances in biomechanics, biomedical engineering, mathematical modeling and simulation, bio-inspired polymer material, computer science to provide comprehensive coverage of new approaches to constructing machines that can undergo dramatic changes in shape, size, kinematics, and stiffness as well as other functions in order to adapt to various environments. This new technology delivers vital applications for a variety of purposes, including industrial end-effector, surgery, assistive healthcare devices, field robotics in emergency situations, aeronautics space operator and more.
The topics of the Workshop on Soft Robotics include the following (but not limited):
• Biomechanics and locamotors control of soft animals and tissues
• Soft material design, fabrication, modeling, and characterization
• Soft actuators and sensors • Control and simulation of highly deformable structures
• Biohybrid devices and living machines • Design and fabrication of conformable and variable-stiffness machines
