Special issue on Rehabilitation Robotics

A special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Robotics

Introduction

Rehabilitation Robotics aims at the development of novel medical solutions for assisted motor therapy and functional assessment of patients with reduced motor and/or cognitive abilities in order to ultimately favor the best achievable functional recovery. Robot-assisted therapy emphasizes the central role of the patient during the motor exercise. This poses major technical challenges for the design of safe and effective robotic platforms.

The IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON ROBOTICS invites researchers working in the academy or industry to submit papers to this Special Issue on Rehabilitation Robotics, on the theoretical, technological and experimental aspects of design, development, and validation of novel rehabilitation robotic systems.

Scope, description and more information

Topics and details can be found in the Call for Papers that can be downloaded from the link below. See also the web page of the IEEE RAS Technical Committee on Rehabilitation & Assistive Robotics.

Author information is available on www.ieee-ras.org/tro/for_authors. Regular and short papers (in PDF) for this Special Issue should be submitted through T-RO Papercept at ras.papercept.net/journals/tro. In the first step of the submission procedure, select the appropriate Paper Type under the 'Special Issue' category. Specify then in the 'Cover Note' field that the paper is intended for the Special Issue on Rehabilitation Robotics.

T-RO considers also multimedia material (typically, videos) accompanying the submission of a paper. Instructions on the preparation of this material can be found on www.ieee-ras.org/tro/for_authors. Multimedia will appear side-by-side to the accepted paper in the electronic version of the Special Issue within IEEE Xplore.

The Call for Papers is going to be published also in the June 2008 issue of T-RO, in the June 2008 issue of the IEEE Robotics & Automation Magazine (RAM), as well as in the July 2008 issue of the IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (T-ASE).

The T-RO Editor Kevin Lynch is supervising this Special Issue.
