RAS Governing Boards - Call for Volunteers
Several of the governing boards of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) are looking for student volunteers to help out with various tasks. As a student volunteer, you’ll get the unique opportunity to see how RAS conferences, publications, and industrial activities are planned and managed, and to work directly with leaders in our field. You will also work with the Student Activities Committee (SAC) to increase student involvement in and bring student perspective to different branches of the society.
The boards looking for volunteers are listed below, with some examples of potential responsibilities. For all positions, responsibilities may also include editing and formatting eNews items and promoting board activities via ieee-ras.org and social media.
- Website maintenance
- Recording meeting minutes at ICRA/IROS
- Providing a student perspective on useful IAB offerings
- Coordinate surveys on the state of our publications and their perspectives
- Develop, distribute and publicize a questionnaire for a new RAS publication
- Website maintenance
- Assistance during conferences and during conference approval process
- Gathering statistics about RAS conferences
Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (T-ASE) Editorial Board
- Website maintenance
- Setup, update and maintenance of a WiKi for EiC duties and processes
- Setup and maintenance of a Web site for the Conference Paper Reviewing Board (CPRB)
The time commitment for these positions should be at most a few hours per month (potentially more during conferences), but we are looking for students who will take their responsibilities seriously and remain engaged in board activities.

We’re looking to start a few new programs for students and we’d love to get your feedback on some of our ideas, and hear any ideas you may have! What do you think the SAC could provide to members at conferences or in general to help students with networking, making connections, getting access to resources and information, etc.?

As a general guideline, the more specific you can be,the better for helping us get an idea of what you’re looking for. Let us know why a particular program would be helpful, how you’d envision implementing, etc. Soon, we’ll be asking for volunteers to work with us and possible take charge of different projects.

The Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) is interested in both applied and theoretical issues in robotics and automation. The Robotics and Automation Magazine and the Transactions on Robotics are the highest ranked journals in the field. We do not need to introduce the flagship conferences of the RAS: ICRA and IROS, both providing significant discounts to members.
