IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine (RAM) was established in 1994 by the IEEE Robotics & Automation Society to provide a forum for publications which lay between the academic and theoretical orientation of scholarly journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Robotics & IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering and the vendor sponsored trade publications. RAM has consistently ranked by Thompson Journal of Citation Reports as among the top four Robotics publications world wide.

Scope

Robotics & Automation Magazine is the main dissemination means to all members of the society and beside having scientific goals, it is also used for general information related to the society and education.

Tutorial articles are solicited in different fields and to attract young readers some short practically oriented features are reported. The scientific papers should contain some practical applicability in order to be published in the magazine, but this does not exclude applicable fundamental contributions. The topics span from automation to robotics and cover among others: robotic manipulation, planning, design and realization, control and software aspects of robotic control, haptics and telemanipulation, robotics technologies, grasping, vision, sensor technologies, localization, wheel and legs locomotion, nano- and micro- systems, cooperative robotics, underwater vehicles, UAVs, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, construction, security, manufacturing, maintenance, supply chains, home automation, laboratory automation and service, food handling and processing, system modeling, analysis, performance Evaluation, production planning, scheduling and coordination.

All fields where robotics and automation technologies are applied are of interest.

Issues

The magazine features 4 issues a year: March, June, September and December.

RAM compliance with IEEE PSPB requirement for “Handling of Manuscripts Authored by Publications Volunteers” (Publications Operations Manual, Section 8.2.2.A)

For special issues the Guest Editors are allowed to submit themselves a maximum of 1 paper (total) for the issue they are Guest Editing and such submission is handled directly by the EiC and AEs without access of knowledge of the Guest Editors. In case the EiC or AEs would submit a paper, the paper will be handled outside the paper management system and given in responsibility to an other AE which will have the function of the EiC for handling that specific paper.
