Regional Student Representatives

 

The IEEE RAS Student Activities Committee (SAC) has recently implemented a new structure to facilitate communication between the RAS SAC and RAS Student Chapters. Regional student representatives, introduced below, have been appointed to represent Region(s) 1-7, 8, 9, and 10. These students will act as ambassadors from the RAS SAC to student chapters, and will facilitate activities and communication within their regions. Niveditha Kalavakonda is a Ph.D. student at the BioRobotics Lab in University of Washington, Seattle. She is an Amazon Catalyst Fellow and a Fellow at the Laboratory for Analysis of Motion and Performance. She graduated with a BTech degree from Amrita School of Engineering, India in 2014 and a M.Sc. from the University of Washington in 2017. Before joining UW, Niveditha worked as a Research Associate at the Robotics Lab in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. She is the Founding Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering at the University of Washington.

Thassyo Pinto received his B.Sc. in Mechatronics Engineering from Universidade Salvador (UNIFACS), Brazil, in 2014. Throughout his academic life, he has had the opportunity to work as a volunteer in various professional societies, promoting technology awareness for the community by organizing engineering seminars, workshops and competitions. He has experience in automotive industry, working as a Vehicle Package Analyst and as a Vehicle Evaluation and Verification (VEV) Sign-off Engineer at Ford Motor Company. He is now a Ph.D. student in Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University, and a member of the Smart Microsystems Lab and Adami Lab. His research interests are in soft robotics, evolutionary robotics and biorobotics. Currently, he is participating in a National Institutes of Health (NIH) program, Broadening Experiences in Scientific Training (BEST), for enhancing career development and building advanced skills. Through his leadership abilities, he has been guiding and improving the IEEE MSU Student Branch as a Graduate Advisor.

Lucas Barczyk received a B.Sc. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Manchester. He has worked for two years in industry at Ocado Technology as a software engineer in a multi-robot based warehousing system. As of September 2017, he will begin working on a M.Sc. in Robotics at King’s College London. Lucas is a passion-driven hobbyist who is actively engaged in robotics activities. When not designing robots, you can find Lucas jogging, playing instruments or travelling.

Ikram Touir is a student from Tunisia in the field of artificial intelligence. She has been an active IEEE member and volunteer since 2014 when she established the IEEE Student Branch at Higher Institute of Applied Science and Technology of Sousse -Tunisia. She has served in many IEEE volunteer positions including IEEE Day Ambassador, IEEEXtreme Ambassador and in the PES Renewable Energy in Schools (RES) Project. She was the Local Arrangement Chair for the 5th International Competition in Robotics, RoboComp2015 - Tunisia. Her Student Branch was awarded both the Section Outstanding Student Branch Award and the Section Outstanding WIE Affinity group for 2016. Ikram represented her school at the 2016 IEEE Region 8 Student and Young Professional Congress held in Regensburg, Germany. She served as Region 8 RAS SAC member from 2014-2016. Currently Ikram serves as Treasurer of IEEE RAS Tunisia Chapter which was awarded both the IEEE Region 8 Best Chapter of the Year award and the IEEE RAS Chapter of the Year Award for 2017.

Kevin Ramirez is a Senior developer of Apple, and a Mechatronic Engineering student at the Universidad de San Buenaventura, Bogotá, Colombia. He is the former Chair of the RAS and CS Student Branch Chapters at Universidad de San Buenaventura. Kevin is passionate about technology and its social application. He is co-founder and CEO of DEV&TECH, a research and development company.

Piero is an Electronic Engineer from National University of Engineering, Lima, Perú. He has been an IEEE member since 2013 and he has supported and developed IEEE activities since then. He plans to promote new technology in Region 9 as a way to improve the quality of life for all. Piero currently works in healthcare at Siemens company.
