The new IEEE Transactions on Haptics will address the science, technology and applications associated with information acquisition and object manipulation through touch. Haptic interactions relevant to this journal include all aspects of manual exploration and manipulation by humans, machines and interactions between the two, performed in real, virtual, teleoperated or networked environments. Research areas of relevance to this publication will include, but not be limited to, the following topics:
Professor J. Edward Colgate of Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, USA was just named to be the Founding Editor-in-Chief. Prof. Colgate has worked extensively in the areas of haptic interface and telemanipulation. He is known for his work on passivity and collaborative robots (cobots), and has recently developed a strong interest in variable friction haptic displays. The journal web site is http://www.computer.org/th , and paper submission will be done through Manuscript Central to be available soon. The Transactions is financially co-sponsored by IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Computer Society, and Consumer Electronics Society, and is also technically co-sponsored by IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
