RAS Society Awards Nominations
The RAS Awards Committee is soliciting nominations for seven IEEE Society
Awards Nominations must be submitted to RAS Awards Chair
Katsushi Ikeuchi. by March 1, 2007.
Two new RAS awards were approved by IEEE Technical Activities Board in 2006:
- IEEE Inaba Technical Award for Innovation Leading to Production.
This award, which includes a $1000.00 honorarium is funded by a
gift from Dr Seiuemon Inaba for an initial period of up to 10 years, managed
by the IEEE Foundation.
This award is designed to recognize original innovative research and
concept.
Basis for Judging: work that has been translated into commercial
application as well as the commercial product and its success. The nomination
must also describe the unique characteristics of the transformation into the
commercialized product that justify the award. The current and future impact
of the commercial product is a fundamental element of the merit for selection.
Nominations for this award only should be sent to the Vice President for
Industrial Activities, Sukhan Lee lsh@ece.skku.ac.kr by March 1, 2007.

IEEE Invention and Entrepreneurship Award
This award is sponsored in alternate years by the RAS and by the IFR
(International Federation of Robotics). The 2007 award will be sponsored by
RAS and presented at ICRA in Rome.
The award is designed to recognize the entrepreneurial commercialization of
ideas into actual products.
Basis for Judging. Entrepreneurial commercialization of ideas into
actual products. Nominations should cite and describe the original work that
has been translated into commercial application as well as the commercial
product and its success. The nomination must also describe the unique
characteristics of the transformation into the commercialized product that
justify the award. The current and future impact of the commercial product is
a fundamental element of the merit for selection.
Nominations are also solicited for the following RAS Society Awards:
- Pioneer Award
- Early Government or Industry Career Award
- Early Academic Career Award
- Distinguished Service Award
- Chapter of the Year Award
The Society presents three awards for outstanding Transactions papers.
- IEEE Transactions on Robotics King-Sun Fu Memorial Best Paper Award
- IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering Googol Best New
Application Paper Award
- Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering Best Paper Award
Recipients of these awards are determined by the Transactions editorial boards.
The ICRA Awards Committee also presents a number of awards for papers
presented at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation.
