1. IEEE/IFR IERA AWARD DEADLINE EXTENDED TO APRIL 18

Officials from the International Federation of Robotics and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society announced that the deadline for applications for the 2010 IEEE/IFR Invention and Entrepreneurship in Robotics and Automation Award has been extended to April 18.
The purpose of this award is to highlight and honour the achievements of inventors with value creating ideas and entrepreneurs who propel those ideas into world-class products. At the same time the joint disposition of the award underlines the determination of both organizations to promote stronger collaboration between robotics science and robotics industry.
Up to one award will be given annually to the individual(s) whose entrepreneurial efforts have taken an earlier conceptual innovation and evolved it into a commercialized product. The winner(s) are expected to present the underlying principles of the concept, how they transformed this into the product, and demonstrate the commercial product realized from the concept. Just a prototype product or proof of concept is not acceptable.
The award consists of a plaque and a $2,000 honorarium. In the event there are multiple winners, each recipient will receive a plaque and the honorarium will be equally split between the recipients.
The IERA Award will be presented during the 2010 IEEE/IFR Forum which will be hosted by the IFRon June 8 in Munich, during the ISR/ROBOTIK, the International Symposium on Robotics and the German Conference on Robotics.

2. Colgate Reappointed as T-Haptics EIC
The founding Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Haptics, Professor
Edward Colgate of Northwestern University, is currently serving the third year of his three-year appointment. Following the procedures of ToH EiC Selection Guidelines, feedback on Professor Colgate's re-appointment was solicited from all participating societies. With excellent comments and the ToH Management Committee's own evaluation, Professor Colgate have been unanimously approved by the Management Committee in its March 24 2010 meeting for the second three-year term as the EiC of IEEE Transactions on Haptics starting January 1, 2011.
Please join us in congratulating him for his excellent achievements thus far and for his re-appointment as the EiC for the Transactions.
The IEEE Transactions on Haptics is cosponsored by the Robotics and Automation Society, the Computer Society, and the Consumer Electronics Society.
