Seeking Candidates for RAS Automation Leadership Positions
Description: ICRA automation chair, TAB automation coordinator, and RA-L automation editor are visionary, experienced and dedicated automation leaders who are eager to build up the automation community while coordinating with robotic activities to cultivate, promote and contribute to the automation profession.
Eligibility: Any visionary leaders and RAS members who have frequently participated and contributed to IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, or Automation-related Technical Committees, and who are mature communicators and coordinators are eligible.
Basis for Evaluation:
1. ICRA automation chair
(1) Significant research, development or deployment achievements in automation science and engineering
(2) Past experience in organizing IEEE CASE and ICRA (general/program chairs, organization committee members, members of the conference editorial board)
(3) Vision, dedication and practically implementable strategies to cultivate and promote automation in ICRA and to significantly enlarge the automation participation in ICRA while coordinating with and contributing to IEEE CASE, T-ASE, RA-L and automation related technical committees.
(4) Duties include promoting automation related submissions; helping and coordinating automation related special sessions and tracks; coordinating automation related paper review process; and recommending Editors and AEs for the ICRA Conference Editorial Board.
2. TAB automation coordinator
(1) Significant research, development or deployment achievements in automation science and engineering
(2) Past experience in leading/developing RAS automation-focused TCs (chairs, co-chairs, and actively participating members)
(3) Vision, dedication and practically implementable strategies to cultivate and promote automation-related technical committees in RAS while coordinating with and contributing to IEEE CASE, ICRA, T-ASE and RA-L.
(4) Duties include coordinating and mentoring automation related TCs with their activities, exploring new topics and chair candidates to establish a TC related to automation, and participating and coordinating in the Triennial Review Process of the TCs. Metrics can include increasing membership of Automation-related TCs, coordinating submission of ICRA workshops and tutorials by TCs, and coordinating submission of RAM overview articles by TCs.
3. RA-L automation editors
(1) Significant research, development or deployment achievements in automation science and engineering
(2) Past editorial experience in RA-L, IEEE CASE Editorial Board or T-ASE
(3) Vision, dedication and practically implementable strategies to cultivate and promote automation-related manuscripts in RA-L while coordinating with and contributing to IEEE CASE, ICRA, T-ASE, and automation-related technical committees.
(4) Duties include promoting automation related submissions; helping and coordinating automation related special issues; handling automation related paper review process; and recommending Editors and AEs for automation related papers.

- Position intended: ICRA automation chair, TAB automation coordinator, RA-L automation editor (can be nominated for multiple positions but with a preferred rank)
- Past experience related to the corresponding position, i.e., responding to the evaluation criteria 1(2), 2(2), or 3(2).
- Position statement on how to coordinate and enhance automation activities in the corresponding position(s) (multiple position nominations need individual statements), i.e., responding to evaluation criteria 1(3), 2(3), or 3(3).
Nomination process:
- Nominations should be sent to the Automation Coordination Committee chair.
- The Automation Coordination Committee members discuss and finalize a short list of strong candidates for each position (ICRA automation chair, RA-L automation editor, TAB automation coordinator)
- The Automation Coordination Committee submits the lists to the ICRA general chair, RA-L Editor-in-Chief, or TAB VP, who will finalize the selections.
Duty and term:
- Following the policies of duties in ICRA, TAB, and RA-L to enhancing automation related activities.
- Following the policies in ICRA, TAB and RA-L, but 2-year for ICRA, and 3-year for TAB automation coordinator, 5-year for RA-L automation editor.
- At most 2 terms for each position.
