The RAS Student Branch Chapter of the National University of Colombia completed many accomplishments over the past year working towards the production and divulgation of robotics in Colombia. The past year we achieved the unification of the group with the mechatronics students committee, and therefore, the group will now be branded with our new logo C-R. All efforts were in pro of the development of the 12th edition of the biggest free national robotics contest, The UNRobot, which this year is nominated at the ICRA to adquire the denomination of Global RAS robotic contest.
As our team pushed toward the creation of a RAS Colombia’s Robotics league we added 4 new original categories in our contest, featuring drone racing, line follower drag racing, Tetris and UNRobot challenge, all of which grabbed the attention of national media, getting multiple mentions and interviews in radio stations such as Radioaktiva and UNradio and in national TV with Canal 1 and even in one of the biggest newspaper in Colombia such as El Tiempo. More over, following the same path of action towards the league creation, our members collaborated in three Colombian contests, RopFest, Akihabara and the team even served as juries in GCBot. All of this while being part of the organizers in the World Robot Olympiad Colombian Version.
The group also developed projects such as a mini CNC machine, and opened the university competitive line with the construction of a drone, a sumo robot and a line follower robot. With these, came the first time ever, official international participation of the university in the RobotRumble in Mexico and since then those prototypes have been a great representation of the chapter and the university, achieving even the first place in Robot Al Parque contest from the Bogotá Distrital University in Colombia.
The 2019 RAS team made all of this possible thanks to their dedication and hard work all throughout the year, this report is dedicated to them as thanks to their effort.
