IEEE RAS Intro to Science Communication Workshop

The IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, in collaboration with IEEE Spectrum and AIhub/Robohub, is running an Intro to Science Communication Workshop, an online workshop to introduce you to science communication in robotics, and help you create your own story through hands-on activities!

Science communication is essential. It helps demystify robotics for a broad range of people including policy makers, business leaders, users, and the public. As a roboticist, mastering this skill can not only enhance your communication abilities but also expand your network and increase the visibility and impact of your work.

Yet most roboticists don’t engage in science communication, due to a lack of skills, time, and reach that makes the effort worthwhile. With this workshop we aim to overcome these barriers and make communicating robotics ‘easy’. Through short introductions from leading science communicators in robotics, and hands-on activities, we will explore how to clearly and concisely explain your robotics research to non-specialists. You’ll learn how to avoid hype, how to find suitable images and videos to illustrate your work, and where to start with social media. We’ll end with insight from mainstream media on how get your story out to a wider audience.
