Georgia Chalvatzaki is a Full Professor (W3) in the Computer Science Department at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, where she leads the interactive Robot Perception & Learning Group. She completed her Ph.D. in Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece, in 2019. Her research focuses on the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and human-robot interaction, with specific interests in mobile manipulation, reinforcement learning, and human-centered robotics.
Chalvatzaki is a recipient of the prestigious Alfried Krupp Förderpreis (2025) and an ERC Starting Grant (2024). She was also named an Ellis Scholar of the European Lab for Learning and Intelligent Systems program in 2024 and was awarded the Emmy Noether Programme grant by the German Research Foundation (DFG) in 2021. Her work has been recognized with several best paper awards and nominations at leading robotics conferences.

My qualifications for the AdCom position are demonstrated through my dedicated and active service to the IEEE RAS community. My leadership experience as the current Chair of the IEEE RAS Women in Engineering (WiE) committee, and previously as Co-Chair, has given me direct insight into fostering a more inclusive and supportive community. I have organized several successful mentoring events at our flagship conferences, showing my commitment to nurturing the next generation of roboticists.
As the Co-Chair of the IEEE Technical Committee on Mobile Manipulation, I am actively involved in promoting emerging research areas within RAS. My long-standing role as an Associate Editor for RA-L, for which I was recognized as an Outstanding AE, and my service on conference committees have provided me with a deep understanding of the society’s technical and publication activities. My extensive research background, recognized by an ERC Starting Grant and the Alfried Krupp Prize, positions me to help steer the society’s technical vision.
Demonstrated leadership in the IEEE RAS Women in Engineering (WiE) committee, advancing from Co-Chair (2022-2023) to Chair (2024-present) while actively organizing mentoring events to support diversity and inclusion within the society.
Serving as Co-Chair for the IEEE RAS Technical Committee on Mobile Manipulation since 2021, helping to shape and grow this important technical area within the community.
Sustained service as an Associate Editor for IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) since 2021, culminating in receiving the Outstanding Associate Editor award in 2023 in recognition of my contributions to the journal’s quality.
Consistent organization of impactful workshops at major IEEE RAS conferences, including ICRA and IROS, creating forums for scientific exchange on timely topics such as mobile manipulation, robot learning, and generative models.
Service on the awards committee for the flagship IEEE conferences ICRA & IROS in 2023, contributing to the recognition of scientific excellence within the robotics community.
My journey in the Robotics and Automation Society has been driven by a deep commitment to service and a passion for fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. My extensive experience, from co-chairing the Technical Committee of Mobile Manipulation to leading the Women in Engineering (WiE) committee, has provided me with a clear vision for how I can contribute to the Administrative Committee (AdCom). If elected, I will focus my efforts on three key pillars:
1. Empowering our community through inclusive excellence:
As Chair of the RAS Women in Engineering, I have seen firsthand the positive impact of targeted support and recognition. I am proud to have helped launch the IDEA award and to have introduced the WIRA awards, which celebrate and elevate the outstanding women in our field. The mentoring events my team and I have organized are consistently met with high engagement and positive feedback, demonstrating a clear need for these initiatives. As an AdCom member, I will champion the expansion of mentorship programs and resources to support members at all career stages, ensuring that RAS is a welcoming and equitable home for everyone.
2. Driving technical leadership in emerging fields:
Robotics is evolving at an incredible pace. As co-chair of the Technical Committee on Mobile Manipulation and an active researcher in robot learning and human-robot interaction, I am passionate about keeping our society at the forefront of innovation. I will work to identify and promote emerging technical areas, support the creation of new technical committees, and ensure our conferences and publications continue to be the premier venues for disseminating cutting-edge research.
3. Enhancing member engagement and value:
A society is only as strong as its members. I am committed to ensuring that every member of RAS feels connected and valued. Building on the success of the workshops and events I have organized, I will advocate for new initiatives that increase engagement, facilitate global networking, and provide tangible value to both academic and industry members. My goal is to ensure that RAS not only leads the conversation in robotics and automation but also provides a dynamic and supportive platform for the brilliant minds who drive our field forward.
I am eager to bring my experience, energy, and dedication to the AdCom. I would be honored to have your support to continue serving our community and to help shape the future of the Robotics and Automation Society.
