BIOGRAPHY
Marcelo earned his BSc and MSc degrees in Mechanical Engineering from De La Salle University, Philippines, and the University of Hawaii, USA, in 1981 and 1985, respectively. He completed his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Rochester, New York, in 1988, where he was also an Assistant Professor. In 1989, he joined the National University of Singapore’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, where he is now a Professor. His research focuses on robotics, mechatronics, autonomous systems, and intelligent systems applications. He teaches courses in robotics, creativity and innovation, applied electronics, computing, and design. Marcelo is also a founding chairman of the Singapore Robotic Games, a founding member of the World Robot Olympiad Advisory Council, and is involved with the Singapore Standards Organization in creating technical references and standard.
