IEEE ACTIVITIES:
COMMITTEES/BOARDS:
Senior Editor of IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) (2021-current)
CONFERENCES:
QUALIFICATIONS:
My research in the application of deep learning to robotics has garnered significant recognition, including the Best Paper Award in Cognitive Robotics at ICRA 2021 and publication in Science Robotics in 2022 (selected as the cover of this issue). From my research and experience in the field of Cognitive Developmental Robotics, I can contribute by shaping discussions at the intersection of Embodied AI with neuroscience and developmental science. Having served as the General Chair for the IEEE International Conference on Development and Learning (ICDL) in 2018, with a focus on Cognitive Developmental Robotics, and as a Senior Editor in Cognitive Robotics for IEEE RA-Letter, I have gained valuable experience in academic leadership. My involvement as a board member in esteemed organizations such as the Robotics Society of Japan (RSJ) and the Japanese Society for Artificial Intelligence (JSAI) reflects my commitment to the field on both domestic and international levels. I am confident that my expertise and dedication can be channeled effectively towards contributing to the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS:
POSITION STATEMENT:
If entrusted with the position, my focus will be on advancing Artificial Intelligence (AI) to the potential of Multimodal Embodied AI, particularly the role of “robots.” The development of the next generation of Embodied AI, which thrives through interaction with real-world environments, is of paramount importance. Collaboration with fields such as neuroscience and developmental science, as has been done in the field of Cognitive and Developmental Robotics, is essential to this endeavor.
Drawing from my research and experience in the field of Cognitive Developmental Robotics, I aim to contribute by shaping discussions at international conferences, especially those related to the intersection of Embodied AI with neuroscience and developmental science. By steering conversations towards relevant topics, I intend to foster an environment conducive to fruitful exchanges of ideas. This collaborative approach will play a pivotal role in driving progress in this critical domain.
Furthermore, I’ll provide opportunities for member engagement and education. This encompasses facilitating discussions, particularly on topics relevant to Cognitive Developmental Robotics. Additionally, I plan to create platforms and/or tools for younger members to learn and grow in this dynamic field. By doing so, we empower our community to not only keep pace with the evolving landscape of AI but also lead it.
Moreover, I recognize the importance of outreach and mentorship. I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports and nurtures the talents of emerging professionals. Through mentorship programs and networking initiatives, we can facilitate knowledge exchange and foster a sense of camaraderie within our community.
In summary, my envisioned role is to drive advancements in Cognitive Developmental Robotics through collaborative efforts, focused discussions, and initiatives that support the growth of our members. By setting the stage for meaningful exchanges and providing educational opportunities, we will collectively shape the future of AI and robotics. I am eager to work towards the mission of IEEE RAS and contribute to the growth and success of our global community.
