Biography

Robert Ambrose was born in Boston, MA in 1964 and grew up in Houston, TX. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis, and his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. After graduating, Ambrose secured a position at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston, TX where he is currently the Chief of the Software, Robotics and Simulation Division. Ambrose also leads NASA's role in the National Robotics Initiative and has been instrumental in the development of robotic mobility, manipulation, teleoperation, autonomy and human-robotic systems.
