Regional Student Representatives

 

The IEEE RAS Student Activities Committee (SAC) has recently implemented a new structure to facilitate communication between the RAS SAC and RAS Student Chapters. Regional student representatives, introduced below, have been appointed to represent Region(s) 1-7, 8, 9, and 10. These students will act as ambassadors from the RAS SAC to student chapters, and will facilitate activities and communication within their regions. Niveditha Kalavakonda is a Ph.D. student at the BioRobotics Lab in University of Washington, Seattle. She is an Amazon Catalyst Fellow and a Fellow at the Laboratory for Analysis of Motion and Performance. She graduated with a BTech degree from Amrita School of Engineering, India in 2014 and a M.Sc. from the University of Washington in 2017. Before joining UW, Niveditha worked as a Research Associate at the Robotics Lab in Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. She is the Founding Chair of IEEE Women in Engineering at the University of Washington.

Westley graduated with a BSc. in Mechatronic engineering from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2019. While in campus he served as the founding chairperson of IEEE JKUAT student branch where he grew its membership to over sixty in less than a year. Currently, he works as a prototype engineer in Kenya. Westley is determined to foster designing of robot systems by boosting RAS activities in his region.

Yareth Pinzón is currently in 7 semester of Informatics Engineering at  the University of La Sabana. He has been a volunteer and President of RAS of his Student Branch since 2016. He has been president of the Robotica nurseries level 1,2,3 and 4 and of Computer. He also has a  degree in Native Development in Android, Native Development in IOS 8, Fundamentals of Software Engineering, Voice-to-Speech Marketing Course issued by the Ministry of Information Technology and APPSCO of Colombia, as well as Mobile APP Programming Course, Course of Introduction to Website Development, Basic Digital Marketing Course, Course of Cloud Computing, Course of Productivity in the Digital Era, Course of E-Commerce, Course of Digital Transformation for Employment. He has been Contry Leaf of Colombia of the IEEEXTREME in 2017 and 2018, he participated in several Robotics tournaments like:

  • Robotic People 2017 (5 Position in Sprinter and Footballers)
  • All Japan Sumo Robot Tournament 2017 (36 Position) 
  • Robotic People Villavicencio 2018 (First Place in Sumo RC, Sumo and Third place in Footballers)
  • Robotic People 2018 (Second Place in Insects)
  • Robotic People Akihabara 2018 (First Place in Insects)
  • Robotic Challenge Mexico 2018 (Second Place in Insects)
  • All Japan Sumo Robot Tournament 2018

Zelin Nie (S’14) received the B.E. degree in automation from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 2013, where she is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree with the Systems Engineering Institute. She was a postgraduate visiting internship student in The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, from 2018 to 2019 fall term. Her research interests include electricity market, power system optimization and scheduling, smart building, multi-timescale optimization and decision.
