In 2023 the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) introduced the IEEE RAS Members Support Program. This program is designed to support members who have contributed to its mission-related activities:
“The mission of the Robotics and Automation Society is, within its field of interest, to foster exchange of information and knowledge among researchers and practitioners, standards development, career development, education, public outreach including pre-college students, and to support IEEE in its mission”
The program has been created as an opportunity for those who have contributed to RAS to receive the benefits of the Society’s success in the form of financial support.
The MSP provides travel support for members to attend and participate in the Society’s sponsored conferences.
The MSP provides funding to authors of accepted papers to support their attendance to the Society’s sponsored conferences. This support may take the form of reimbursement of eligible costs incurred in attending the conference (travel and accommodation), or provision of pre-booked accomodation near to the conference venue. The amount of support available varies according to the annual budget of the MSP, however, it typically covers costs up to a cap of $1500.
Members must apply for this support through the application form here.
To be eligible for consideration, an applicant must be either (i) a student or (ii) from a developing country (as determined by the Developing Country Listing) and must be presenting work at the conferencethey are attending. In all cases, only applicants who are IEEE RAS members may be considered for travel support.Who can apply for the MSP Travel Grant from an accepted paper?
The presenting author gets priority to apply (if they are an IEEE/RAS member). If the presenting author does not wish to apply, another author on the paper may apply. Only one author per accepted paper is eligible to apply for support.
Can financial support be transferred from an IEEE/RAS member to a non-member?
No.
Can financial support be transferred from one paper/workshop to another paper/workshop?
No.
How is it decided which paper author receives the MSP travel grant?
If the author who applied is no longer able to attend, they must contact and email [email protected] to transfer the support to another author on the same paper for the same conference.
