Special Issue on WHC 2025

Aims and scope

The IEEE Transactions on Haptics and the IEEE World Haptics Conference have established a strong and mutually beneficial scientific partnership. A key component of this collaboration is the opportunity for selected authors to present their published ToH articles at WHC. We are now pleased to deepen this partnership through a Special Issue of ToH highlighting extensions of the best research presented at WHC 2025 in Suwon, Korea.
Specifically, authors of the most highly rated regular and long papers accepted to WHC 2025 have been invited to extend their work and submit a full-length journal article (12 pages including references and author biographies) to ToH. In accordance with IEEE policy, these journal submissions must contain additional contributions – at least 30% new content beyond the WHC 2025 paper. To streamline the review process, ToH guest editors may invite the original WHC reviewers to participate in reviewing the extended journal versions. As these submissions build on peer-reviewed conference papers, each will be allowed only one round of major revisions.

Submission instructions

Authors invited to contribute must follow these detailed submission requirements:

  1. Substantial Extension: The journal manuscript must contain additional contributions – at least 30% new content beyond the WHC 2025 paper
  2. Citation of Conference Paper: The original WHC 2025 conference paper must be properly cited and included in the references of the extended version.
  3. Reuse of Figures or Tables: Any figure or table reused from the WHC 2025 paper must include a source citation referencing the original conference paper.
  4. Originality of Text: No large blocks of text may be copied verbatim from the conference paper. The title, abstract, and conclusions must be meaningfully different to reflect the novel contributions.
  5. Cover Letter Requirements: Submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter that includes a clear explanation detailing the main differences between the WHC 2025 paper and the extended ToH submission.
  6. Authorship and Title: The title of the journal submission must be different from that of the conference paper. The author list should remain largely consistent, although additions, removals, or reorderings are permitted to appropriately reflect contributions.

All submissions must comply with the IEEE ToH formatting guidelines and be submitted through the IEEE Author Portal. Authors must select “Special Issue: WHC 2025” as the submission category to ensure proper tracking for the Special Issue.
