Call for RAS Sustainability Grant Applications

The Robotics and Automation Society is pleased to announce the 3rd Call for Applications for the RAS Sustainability Grants. This program supports members who are working to document, share, and advance sustainable practices within the robotics and automation community.

Funded projects may include the development of best practice guides, technical tutorials, case studies, or accounts of efforts to make scientific events in robotics and automation more sustainable. Projects that contribute to the design of robotics and automation systems for environmental sustainability are equally welcome, however a discussion of their potential environmental impact is expected (i.e. negative environmental impact of additional robots or robot use vs positive impact of their use). A similar discussion is expected for projects aiming to democratize the use of robotics.

By making this work accessible to the broader community, grant recipients help researchers, engineers, and organizers worldwide adopt more effective and sustainable approaches in their own work.

To get a sense of the work this grant supports, we invite you to explore the projects currently funded by this program, spanning institutions across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East and addressing challenges ranging from solar energy distribution to marine environmental monitoring. 

Grant Details

  • Funding: Up to $10,000 USD per project
  • Flexible Use: Funds may be applied toward salaries, materials, and other project-related expenses
  • Project Duration: Projects must be completed within six months of receiving the grant

Application Timeline

  • Submission Deadline: 31 July, 2026
  • Notification of Results: 30 September, 2026
  • Project Completion Deadline: 31 March, 2027
