IEEE Transactions on Haptics publishes original, high-quality contributions related to the science, engineering, and application of haptics.

The journal considers the following types of submissions:

1. Regular Papers
2. Short Papers
3. Survey Papers
4. Editorial Articles

Authors must select the appropriate article type at the time of submission.

All manuscripts must be prepared using the official IEEE templates and must comply with IEEE style and formatting requirements.

Submissions must:

• Be written in clear and professional English
• Include an abstract, keywords, and properly formatted references
• Respect the page limits specified for each article type
• Contain figures and tables of sufficient quality for peer review
• Clearly describe the technical contribution and its relevance to the haptics community

Supplementary materials (e.g., videos, datasets, software, or appendices) may be uploaded to support the review process.

At the time of submission, authors may choose one of the following review models:

• Single-anonymous review, in which reviewers know the authors’ identities, but authors do not know the reviewers’ identities
• Double-anonymous review, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous

For double-anonymous review, authors are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript and all supplementary materials are properly anonymized, including the removal of author names, affiliations, acknowledgments, and other identifying information.

All manuscripts are reviewed by at least two independent expert reviewers in accordance with IEEE policies.

Submitted manuscripts must represent original work that has not been previously published and is not under review elsewhere.

Authors are required to:

• Comply with IEEE policies on plagiarism, duplicate submission, and ethical conduct
• Disclose any conflicts of interest
• Clearly indicate whether the manuscript is based on or extends a previously published or presented conference paper

If a manuscript extends prior conference work, the authors must clearly describe the additional contributions beyond the earlier version.

The following procedure applies to revised submissions corresponding to editorial decisions issued by IEEE Transactions on Haptics.

• Minor Revision and Major Revision
  When a manuscript receives a Minor Revision or Major Revision decision, the revised version must be submitted using the same paper ID through the Author Portal. The revision will be treated as a new version of the original submission, and the version number will be incremented automatically. All previous submissions and review materials remain linked to the manuscript record.
• Revise and Resubmit as New
  When a manuscript receives a Revise and Resubmit as New decision, any revised version must be submitted as a new submission, and will be assigned a new paper ID. Although handled as a new submission, the revised manuscript must clearly indicate that it is a resubmission of a previously reviewed paper.In this case, authors must:
  • Indicate during submission that the manuscript is a resubmission;
  • Provide the paper ID of the previously reviewed manuscript;
  • Upload a separate document detailing how the authors have addressed the Associate Editor’s summary and the reviewers’ comments.
• The previous submission and its associated review history may be consulted by the Editors and may be linked internally to the new submission in the system.

Resubmissions that do not include the required response document or do not identify the prior paper ID in the Cover Note may be returned without review.

A rejection decision indicates that a revised version of the manuscript is also likely to be rejected. Authors are therefore discouraged from resubmitting a previously rejected manuscript to IEEE Transactions on Haptics, and are advised to consider submitting their revised work to another journal.

If authors nevertheless decide to resubmit a previously rejected manuscript, the submission must satisfy all of the following requirements:

• The submission must be clearly identified as a resubmission during the submission process.
• The manuscript ID of the previously rejected paper must be explicitly stated during the submission.
• A separate response document must be uploaded, providing a clear and detailed response to the Associate Editor’s summary and the reviewers’ comments, including explicit descriptions of how the manuscript has been modified in response.
• The revised manuscript must reflect substantial changes addressing the major concerns raised in the prior decision.

The response document is uploaded at the final step of the submission process, together with the manuscript files.

Resubmitted manuscripts are otherwise handled in the same manner as new submissions. However, the Editors may consult the previous decision and reviews and may assign the manuscript to the same or different Associate Editors and reviewers, or may decide not to send the manuscript out for external review.

Submissions that do not include either
(i) the response to the previous reviews, or
(ii) the manuscript ID of the previously rejected paper in the Cover Note,
will be returned without review.

To submit a manuscript, authors should:

1. Access the IEEE Author Portal and select IEEE Transactions on Haptics.
2. Choose the appropriate article type.
3. Select the preferred review model (single- or double-anonymous).
4. Upload the manuscript PDF and required source files.
5. Enter manuscript metadata, including title, abstract, keywords, and author information.
6. Declare conflicts of interest and disclose related prior publications.
7. Upload supplementary materials, if applicable.
8. Review all information and complete the submission.

Authors may track the status of their submission through the Author Portal.

Each submission undergoes an initial editorial screening to assess scope, quality, and compliance with journal policies. Manuscripts that pass this screening are assigned to an Associate Editor, who manages the peer-review process.

Based on the reviewers’ recommendations, one of the following decisions will be issued:

• Accept
• Minor Revision
• Major Revision
• Revise and Resubmit as New
• Reject

For revision decisions, authors must submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed, point-by-point response to the reviewers’ comments.

Upon acceptance, authors will be required to:

• Upload final source files
• Complete the IEEE electronic copyright form
• Respond to any production-related queries

Accepted articles are published in IEEE Xplore and scheduled for inclusion in an issue of IEEE Transactions on Haptics.
