As the development of humanoid robots for our work and home lives continues to captivate us, it’s becoming increasingly clear that we need solid standards and consensus around their safety and performance. This study group, with its mission to identify and accelerate standards development for humanoids, is crucial in ensuring their successful deployment in various environments. We aim to not only examine the current standards landscape but also pave the way for future standards development.

The scope of this study group is the following:

    • Perform a landscape analysis of current standards that can and cannot be applied to humanoid robotics.
    • Identify current gaps in the existing standards framework
    • Identify potential roadblocks to addressing those gaps
    • Develop a standards roadmap that Standards Development Organizations can follow that both address the gaps as well as mitigate the potential roadblocks

By developing these deliverables, humanoids should be able to enter numerous markets quickly, with standards being developed much faster than in the past. As humanoid technology continues to improve, the standards development work is also being developed in sync with those advancements.

This study group seeks inputs from industry, academia, government representatives, and Standards Development Organizations. Those interested in joining and participating in this study group should contact Aaron Prather at [email protected]
